A Mid Summers Evening of Classical Music

Live at The Spanish Barn, Torre Abbey Thursday 23rd June 2011

The spectacular concert will be held at the Spanish Barn, located in the picturesque grounds of Torre Abbey, Torquay. This charismatic venue dates back to the 11th century and with its’ cathedral like grandeur it is the perfect venue for an evening of classical music. The concert features the highly acclaimed Corelli string Quartet from London and exceptional local talented operatic vocalist Keddie Babb. The Corelli Quartet will be playing many of the great classical music pieces from composers such as, Pachelbel, Mozart, Handel, Bach and the highlight of the show will be an arrangement of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons. Keedie will be singing operatic classics including Puccini’s Nessun Dorma, My Reason, La Rhondine & Time to Say Goodbye. There will also be a licensed bar serving a fine selection of wines, beers and spirits and even an after show party at the Bay Brasserie, located a few minutes from the concert venue.

General admission tickets are £15.00 and there are a limited number of V.I.P tickets available for this spectacular event.

The Corelli Quartet

The Corelli Quartet was formed in 2003 whilst its members were studying at the Royal Academy of Music. The players are among London’s leading young freelance musicians and are engaged in orchestral work, chamber music, Fabulous West End shows, recording and sessions. Recent live appearances include the Glastonbury “Classical Spectacular” (for which they were support act for Nigel Kennedy and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra), the Times Film Festival, the opening of “The Cult of Beauty” exhibition at the Victoria
and Albert Museum and The Red Cross Gala Ball.

They also have performed alongside Muse, Elton John, Ozzy Osbourne, Brian May, Josh Grobin, Tim Minchin, Katherine Jenkins, Kerry Ellis and Michael Buble. They are really delighted to be heading down to Torquay for an evening of Summer Classics at the beautiful Torre Abbey on 23rd June 2011.

Keedie Babb

British born soprano Keedie Babb shot to fame when she sang a duet with former Blue band member Duncan James on the soundtrack to Andrew Lloyd Webber’s ‘Woman in White’. She subsequently signed a seven-figure multiple album deal with EMI Classics and released her debut album, which featured classical favourites Pie Jesu’ and ‘O Mio Babbino Caro’ alongside her own material. Keedie has since appeared alongside many great artists such as Katherine Jenkins and Tina Turner and the list goes on!

Keddie is delighted to a part of this event and looking forward to playing at the Classical concert at Torre Abbey.

Greenway Twilight Picnic for Children’s Charity

Following the success of the Torbay Save the Children’s choir concert last year, a Proms style evening is planned for this year’s event, on Saturday16th July at 7 p.m.   The music for a Twilight Picnic in the splendid setting of the National Trust’s Greenway Gardens, will be provided by local Torquay based choir The Big Noise Chorus and The Torbay Brass Band, in what promises to be an entertaining evening of music and song.   The evening includes a transport adventure to the event by the Greenway Coach, from Brixham Park & Ride or by Ferry from Dartmouth.

The Big Noise Chorus is a network of community choirs aiming to explode the myth that you need
an amazing voice to sing in a choir.  Established in September 2009, they perform pop, soul, rock and
Mo Town  music with gusto.  Directed by Colin Rea, the Big Noise Chorus has exploded into Devon,
successfully getting people singing together to raise money for charity.
Truly a local band, Torbay Brass Band was formed in 1976 by a group of local people who were employed at
South Devon College who showed an enthusiasm for brass playing.  The band grew very quickly attracting
Player’s from the Torbay area and was able to add to its strength a junior training band that today forms the
very active Torbay Concert Brass.  The current band still retains its local connections through its members,
who like their predecessors, are very proud to carry the name of Torbay wherever they go, locally, nationally
and internationally. A new training band has been restarted which is open to anyone wishing to learn to play
a brass instrument.
Diane Gale of Torbay Save the Children says, “The evening as suggests, will include a range of music for all
tastes, and with a flavour of the last night of the  Proms, so bring along your picnic and seating and enjoy a
summer evening of exciting and foot-tapping entertainment.”  Tickets cost £12.50 for Adults and £9.50 for
Children. For Dartmouth Ferry tickets are available from Greenway Ferry Booking Office, at
the Dartmouth Quay or Tel: 01803 520847.  Tickets for the Greenway Bus can be bought from Torbay Bookshop, Torquay Road, Paignton, Another Chapter Book Shop, The  Quay, Brixham or by telephoning   01803 520847.
By holding this event,  Save the Children hope to raise money to fund its  work in the many emergency areas around  the world, which affect the lives of thousands of children.  Over the last twelve months Save the Children has responded to 30 different emergencies across the globe and its work is always on-going, wherever support is needed.

Rowcroft Hospice Sea Swim South Devon

Sunday 4th September 2011, 1pm
Teignmouth Beach, South Devon

Last year nearly 200 swimmers participated in the first ever Sea Swim South Devon and helped raise a phenomenal £20,000 for Rowcroft Hospice. It was such a success, that we are incredibly excited to be planning this year’s event and we have added a new optional challenge, the ‘Rowcroft Aquathlon’; a one mile sea swim directly followed by a two mile run along Teignmouth Promenade and East Cliff Park. Whether you are a keen and competent swimmer and want to give running a go, or if you are a runner and fancy trying out a sea swim, then the Rowcroft Aquathlon is the challenge for you!

This year we are very proud to be sponsored by South West Water. Their generosity will help to ensure that the funds raised go directly to the hospice. On the day, each participant will be rewarded with a medal to add to your collection and something hot to eat and drink. Food and drink will also be available to purchase, and of course, friends and family will be most welcome to come and support your efforts.

Event Details:

Entry Fees
£12 for one mile sea swim
£15 for Rowcroft Aquathlon
£20 late entry fee (either event) if you enter between 19th August- 1st September 2011.

Entry fee covers the cost of entry and safety provision. All participants will receive a medal, something warm to eat and drink, and a swim cap.

All participants will be asked to raise as much sponsorship as possible for Rowcroft Hospice.
