Bullseye – 21st October 2011

The Theatre tour with a difference, Bullseye live on stage is coming to Plymouth Pavilions on Friday 21 October 2011.

Join former World Champions and legends of Darts, John Lowe, Eric Bristow and Bob Anderson in a stage version of the TV classic, Bullseye!

There is even a chance for an audience member to go home with £500 cash and the contents of Bully’s prize board!

This promises all the old elements of the TV show faithfully recreated for Bullseye 2011.

As with the original Bullseye gameshow on ITV and Challenge, the dartboards used will be from the World’s leading manufacturer, Winmau. The contestants will also have the opportunity to win some fantastic Winmau darts equipment.

Darts has had a phenomenal rise in popularity in the past few years and now fans have a chance to see 3 legends of the sport go head-to-head with the added bonus of the historic 80’s gameshow recreated on stage.

Bullseye was first made for the ITV Network in 1981 and ran from 1982 until 1995. The show was watched by around 17 million viewers in its primetime Sunday slot and remains part of many people’s childhood history. Repeats of Bullseye are currently aired on the Challenge Channel, part of the Sky platform.

John Lowe won the World Darts Championship title in three different decades – 1979, 1987 and 1993. He achieved the ultimate feat in darts in 1984 when he managed a 9 dart finish, the sport’s perfect game! This was the first time this had ever been accomplished by any darts player while being televised. As well as his three World titles, John also won two Winmau World Masters championships, two British Open titles, two British Matchplay championships, two World Cup Singles and three European Cup Singles titles. He played for England over 100 times and was captain for seven years, during which time his team were unbeaten.

Eric Bristow won his first  World Darts Championship in 1980 and so began a decade’s worth of domination, in which he would retain his title in 1981 and win it again in 1984, 1985 and 1986. Bristow emerged as the most successful and consistent darts player of the 1980s, reigning as World number one from 1980 until 1987. As well as his World Championship exploits, Bristow also lifted the prestigious Winmau World Masters and World Matchplay titles no fewer than five times. He was a winner of the World Cup Singles on four occasions together with countless other major tournaments including the British Open and Swedish Open three times each and the North American Open on four occasions. Eric, known as the “Crafty Cockney”, was awarded the MBE for his services to sport in 1989.

Bob Anderson was world number one for over three years in the late 1980s. Nicknamed The Limestone Cowboy, he threw his first darts maximum (180) at the age of just five.  He was training for the 1968 Olympics, but tragically broke his arm before the team left for Mexico, an injury which brought an end to his javelin-throwing career. Bob has had a long and successful darts career winning the World Championship in 1988 and the Winmau World Masters in 1986, 1987 and 1988 – the first man to win the Masters in three successive years

The host and comedian for the tour will be Neil Wheatley

The Specials 2011 – 23rd October 2011

The Specials 2011

Coventry’s finest THE SPECIALS have announced a European and UK tour for Autumn 2011 and will be heading back to Plymouth Pavilions on Sunday 23 October 2011.

When The Specials kicked off the first night of their sold out 30th Anniversary tour in April 2009 nobody could have realised just how incredible these live shows would be, and the utterly amazing reaction of fans around the world. The audiences were packed with music lovers who had waited since 1981 to revisit this stunning band alongside Specials ‘virgins’ who had never had the chance to see them live. When the curtains dropped and Terry Hall, Lynval Golding, Neville Staple, Roddy Byers, Horace Panter and John Badbury exploded on stage to ‘Do The Dog’ dancehalls up and down the country erupted with young and old stomping as if their lives depended on it.

The band toured the world following these dates, performing in 13 European countries, US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Japan. They played several festivals including a memorable Glastonbury appearance, Coachella in California and live TV appearances including Letterman in the US & Jools Holland’s Later (not forgetting a joyous homecoming celebration at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry). At the Q Awards in October 2009 they picked up the Inspiration Award and the Outstanding Contribution to Music at the NME Awards the following February. They played the Royal Albert Hall as part of the Teenage Cancer Trust run of shows and released a live DVD of their performance at the Wolverhampton Civic Hall.

The irony of The Specials heading out round the UK 30 years after the release of legendary number one hit single ‘Ghost Town’ will not be lost on people living in a country in turmoil facing the harshest cuts from a right wing government in a generation. However these shows will only reinforce their reputation for stellar live performances and reintroduce fans new and old to the classic songs from their legendary two albums.

Tickets cost: £35
(Tickets may be subject to a processing fee)
