Newton Abbot is set to be the rocking venue for another great concert, when Will Young headlines South Devon Festival at Newton Abbot racecourse on Saturday 24th July 2010. This is the first of many Summer dates to be announced for Will in 2010.
The 31 year old, who shot to fame after winning ITV’s Pop Idol eight years ago has sold more than eight million records. He has recently released an album of his best known singles entitled ‘The Hits’ which has reached platinum status as well his first four albums. Will has several widely acclaimed sold out tours under his belt and also had the biggest single of the last decade with ‘Evergreen’. For more details please visit www.willyoung.co.uk.
Promoter, Tim Barrs of Manor Events said: “Will’s appearance combined with all the other great acts, should prove this festival a really special event in Devon’s calendar. Nothing on this scale has been organised before locally and we hope that families will find it a great day out.”
Joining Will are Adrian Edmondson and his band, The Bad Shepherds, The Wurzels, Joey the Lips, The Demon Barber Road Show, The Diamond Geezers and Soul Funktion. Kicking off at 11.00 am on the 24th July, the festival will also feature a food village with local food and drink and a chill out zone offering alternative therapies such as reflexology and Indian Head Massage.
The festival which has been sponsored by local companies Bays Brewery,Luketom.com and Silverstream RV Hire, all based in Torbay, will also have a beer tent, face painting, den and mask making and other activities to keep the young and young at heart amused.
The festival will also be supporting British troops who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan. Through the non profit organisation Tickets For Troops which offers tickets to big events to soldiers, sailors and airmen both currently serving or medically discharged since 2001, promoter Tim Barrs has kindly donated 100 tickets which will be given to qualifying troops free of charge. Raleigh Addington, Operations Director for Tickets For Troops said “This is a fantastic idea, service personnel will love this event. It will be a real boost to the morale of the troops to know that their bravery and commitment is being recognised.”
Tickets for the general public will cost £40 for everyone aged 12+, £20 for children aged 5-12 years and under 5’s free, as long as they are accompanied by an adult.
