Musicians needed for major new event

Rowcroft Hospice is looking for local musicians who would like the chance to play alongside national acts at The Colour Rush, a major new event that is coming to South Devon this summer.

Prior to the Colour Rush, ‘Colour Rucks’ will be taking place in live music venues in Totnes, Newton Abbot and Torquay during July and are open to bands or solo artists who perform original material. Six acts from the Rucks will be chosen to perform at the Colour Rush in Youngs Park, Goodrington on Saturday 7th September.

The local acts will get to support We Are The Ocean, who are fresh from supporting Muse as part of their European tour. The band have a huge following and are signed to play lots of the festivals this summer.Other bands confirmed so far include Treetop Flyers and Lonely the Brave.

The Colour Rush is the first event of its kind in Devon and is organised by and raising funds for the South Devon hospice, Rowcroft. Participants take part in a 5 km colour run around Goodrington, Paignton which will see them covered in different coloured powder paints. The run is then followed by the live Colour Rush after party at Youngs Park – a festival-style music event with bands and acoustic acts performing across two stages.

Ric Yerbury, Rowcroft Events Manager said: “The Colour Rucks are not a battle of the bands contest, but an opportunity for us to find local bands and artists who will fit best at this year’s Colour Rush event in September. Apart from gaining a slot at the main event, there will be opportunities to do some recording at either 4th Floor Studios in Torquay or Ocean Studios in Paignton. The winners will receive industry advice and support and if they wish can have a track included in a release to be made later in the year with funds going to Rowcroft”.

The Colour Rucks will take place on:

25th July, The Barrel House, Totnes

27th July, The Jolly Farmer Newton Abbot

28th July, Apple & Parrot, Torquay as part of the Parrotfest

Entry is free but bands and artists must register for the Colour Rucks atwww.thecolourrush.co.uk/colour-rucks by Friday 12th July. The bands selected from this process will be announced on August 1st.

Wear for Care!

This June, Rowcroft Hospice is launching a brand new awareness and fundraising campaign called Wear for Care, giving local businesses and schools the opportunity to put a colourful twist on the traditional ‘mufti day’ and make a donation towards their local South Devon hospice.

Rowcroft is encouraging the community to take part in Wear for Care on the 17th July 2013, or a day of your own choice. Katy Winter, Community Fundraising Officer said, “Whether you go for it in fancy dress, wear a wig or simply brighten up your usual outfit with some bright lipstick or silly socks – all we ask is that you stick to blue, purple and gold to show your support for Rowcroft.”

Rowcroft Hospice is based in Torquay, but its reach extends far beyond the walls of the building and their care is delivered across the South Devon community, covering 300 square miles. The hospice supports over 1,800 people living with life-limiting illnesses and their families each year through a wide range of services which are all provided free of charge. These services can only be provided thanks to the generosity of the local community who provide the majority of the funds needed each year.

However colourful you choose to be, every pound raised will ensure that Rowcroft Hospice can continue to support and enable people to carry on when, perhaps, at the time carrying on seems unthinkable.

If you would like to take part in Wear for Care, please contact the Community Fundraising team on 01803 210846 for your fundraising pack complete with posters and ideas to help make your day a colourful success.

Torbay Holiday Helpers Network – THHN

•    The Torbay Holiday Helpers Network gives free action packed holidays to families who have children suffering from serious illness, to bereaved families who have lost a child or parent and to families who have a terminally ill parent.

•    The THHN is a fantastic network of businesses, groups and individuals who offer their products & services for free.

•    They enable us to offer truly special holidays to some wonderful people who really do deserve a chance to spend some quality time together as a family.

•    Thanks to everyone in our fantastic network we believe we do some great work.  But, don’t just take our word for it….

“We have just returned from a wonderful family holiday.  We cannot endorse highly enough the good work of the charity which is providing many happy memories for families such as ours.  So thank you THHN for your generosity and we hope to see you again one day.”

“You really have helped to create wonderful, happy memories, which we will cherish forever”

“We can’t put into words how grateful we all are to you – and everyone involved in THHN for giving us a week of fun, laughter and memories that we will treasure forever.”

“Thank you to all the local businesses that made the holiday all the more enjoyable and special.  For the first time in 6 months we have found ourselves able to smile and actually have fun as a family again.  Those memories are priceless and have given us hope for the future.  Thank you so much”

“Whatever happens to our family this year, next year or any time now, we’ll have these memories and nothing can take it away, no matter how difficult and traumatic things can be.  The wonderful thing about the THHN is that many people give what they can – be it a week in their hotel, a fish and chip meal, a cream tea or a free pass to their attraction.  Put all this together and a family gets the holiday of a lifetime!”

Since 2009 we have given over 300 families some wonderful holidays
and wonderful memories. For some it has sadly been the last holiday they have taken as a complete family, before losing a loved one to a cruel illness! We want to keep doing this.
Please get in touch to see how you can help.
