Garden and Designer Announced
Brewin Dolphin is delighted to announce, that for the third consecutive year, they will be sponsoring a Main Avenue Show Garden at RHS Chelsea Flower Show. For 2014 Brewin Dolphin will be working with designer Matthew Childs for whom this will be his first Chelsea appearance.
The Garden
Brewin Dolphin’s long heritage of nurturing talent and growing wealth will be reflected in the calm, tranquil spaces of the 2014 garden surrounded by fresh, lush, planting. The garden will also signify new growth – a springtime concept; and there will be bold, engaging elements throughout the garden such as patinated copper archways, generous paths and sculpture which symbolise emerging opportunities and Brewin Dolphin’s forward thinking approach. These elements and the open sociable entertaining spaces in the garden, which cater for investing in and nurturing relationships, complement those we have with our clients.
Tim Walker, Divisional Director and head of Brewin Dolphin, Exeter said; “Brewin Dolphin is thrilled to be able to support a great new talent like Matthew Childs, his garden at Hampton Court was particularly special and won great acclaim. We are expecting very exciting things of Matthew and are pleased to be part of his progression.”
The Designer
Matthew has always had a passion for plants and gardens and decided to make this his career in 2007 following ten years in the advertising industry.
He attained a professional diploma in garden design from KLC School where he was awarded ‘Student of the Year’ in 2009. He also passed the RHS level 2 Certificate in Horticulture with commendations. Matthew set up his design practice, Matthew Childs Design in 2010 and has been designing a diverse range of public and private landscapes ever since.
In 2012 Matthew achieved a gold medal and ‘Best in category’ award for his first RHS garden ‘Light at the end of the tunnel’ at The RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show. In 2013 Matthew returned to Hampton Court designing a show garden for Ecover which was awarded a gold medal and ‘Best in Show’.
Matthew said, “I am still pinching myself that I will have a garden on Main Avenue at the Chelsea Flower Show in 2014 with Brewin Dolphin. It is a huge opportunity for me as a new designer and it is going to be a challenge, but I am going to give it my all.”
The 2014 Brewin Dolphin garden will be a site MA19, approximately half way down Main Avenue.
The contractor for the Brewin Dolphin Garden 2014 will be Bowles and Wyre, and the plants are being supplied by Hortus Loci.
