Avril Lavigne @ Plymouth Pavilions

AvrileyeconmainFollowing the enormous success of her third studio album and second consecutive US No.1 debut, ‘Best Damn Thing’, Avril Lavigne has announced plans for her 2008 ‘Best Damn Tour’ to be extended to include a full European leg, which heads to Plymouth Pavilions on Sunday 1 June 2008.

Last month Lavigne announced a 32-date North American tour and today has revealed details of her plans for Europe.

“I can’t wait to get back out on the road!” says Lavigne, “I have the most fun when I am performing for the fans. I think that energy comes through in my live show.”

‘Best Damn Thing’, released in April 2007, is already certified platinum in the UK and throughout Europe and has sold over 4.5 million copies worldwide. Produced by Butch Walker (The Donnas, American Hi-Fi, Lavigne’s second album Under My Skin), Dr. Luke (Pink, Lady Sovereign), Rob Cavallo (Green Day, My Chemical Romance) and her husband Deryck Whibley, ‘Best Damn Thing’ was made with fun in mind. This is evident from the first single, ‘Girlfriend’, reaching No.1 around the world. Fans can expect to see the high-spirited energy of the record come to life through Lavigne’s stage show, which will feature dancers and a live band.

Having sold close to 30 million albums worldwide, Avril Lavigne is quickly paving her own path to rock ‘n’ roll royalty. She burst onto the music scene in 2002 with the critically acclaimed ‘Let Go’, which featured the smash singles ‘Sk8r Boi’ and ‘Complicated’. ‘Let Go’ earned Lavigne 8 Grammy nominations and has sold more than 16 million copies worldwide. Her 2004 sophomore effort, ‘Under My Skin’, debuted at No.1 around the world, as did her much anticipated third album, ‘Best Damn Thing’. Lavigne is also making a name for herself in the acting world, with a recent role in the Richard Linklater-directed Fast Food Nation and voice work in the animated ‘Over the Hedge’.

French & Saunders @ Plymouth Pavilions

French-&-SaundersFrench & Saunders 1st & 2nd April 2008 Plymouth Pavilions

French & Saunders will always be referred to as a British TV ‘comedy great’, for what ‘Are You Being Served’ achieved in the 70’s and ‘Only Fools & Horses’ in the 80’s, it could be said French and Saunders conquered the 90’s.

The touring show will feature a blend of classic French & Saunders with them re-enacting some of their favourite clips and characters from the archive, it will also be blended with new material and characters which will bring the tour up to date.

In the early 1990s, the show was given one of the highest budgets in BBC history to create detailed spoofs and satires of pop culture, movies, celebrities and art. French and Saunders continue to film holiday specials for the BBC, and both have been successful starring in their own shows. Saunders starred in and wrote the hit sitcom ‘Absolutely Fabulous’, which is based on a sketch written with French for French & Saunders, while French starred in ‘The Vicar of Dibley’.

In a 2005 poll to find ‘The Comedian’s Comedian’, they were voted amongst the top 50 comedy acts ever by fellow comedians and comedy insiders.

French and Saunders were last on our TV screens with a Christmas Celebrity Special, aired on 27 December 2005 on BBC1.

A 6 part anniversary series ran back in September. ‘A Bucket O’ French & Saunders’ celebrated the duo’s 20th anniversary with the BBC. The opening episode featured classics including the Fat Men, The Extras and an unforgettable Britney Spears and Madonna video, as well as a new sketch in which Dawn pays a visit to a new celebrity restaurant, where Jennifer only seems to want to serve the F Word.

Jennifer said, “We’re so excited about going on Tour and giving the audience a great night out packed full of laughs. We’ll blend the best of our old material with the new and cram it all into a couple of hours of great fun.  It’s going back to basics for us and it’s what we do best.”

Dom Harrett (Palm FM Presenter)

domPresenter of Palm Fm’s Evening Show 6.00 Till 9.00.

Morning!! The Dom has landed. Arriving from the sunny shores of the Costa del Sol back to the Southwest where I like to call home, and now on “South Devon’s Airways poppickers”

My show is a nice mix of all time favourite music for the early part and as we move into the last hour, or the Palm Live Music Café as we like to call it, the music gets that little bit younger.

We do have a couple of daily features starting with South Devon’s Topical Trio 3 songs linked to a local topical news story. It has to be one of the best feelings when you do something like this and then in a flash all the phone lines light up with people trying to guess the answer. It shows what a great loyal listening fan base Palm 105.5 has. We also do a daily teaser just for a bit of fun this is normally something completely off the wall which could have any number of answers. But once again South Devon is there to make me chuckle with the different and slightly amusing answers. All this mixed with my rather strange sense of humour and comical outlook on life.

One of the main parts of the show is the Live Music Café. This has a great following with the local music scene as we give them the chance to join us in the studio for a chat. Local bands, singers, solo artists – Just about anyone with something or anything to do with the music industry. For the bands and artists we play a few of their tracks and find out as much juicy gossip about them as we can. Join us sometime soon and play to South Devon’s biggest stage if you’d like to drop me a line

And as if I don’t already do enough hours I’m always up bright and breezy to bring you the Saturday breakfast show. This is definitely one of my favourite times the show which has a great buzz from the minute I start rather blurry eyed and croaky voiced at 6.00 in the morning (I know I thought there was only one 6 o’clock in a day as well).

Ok I’m being told to stop writing now. One minute there’s not enough then there’s too much. It’s a tough life at the cutting edge of radio in South Devon.

Keep listening and I’m sure I’ll see you around somewhere soon.
