Riverdance Fairwell Tour 2009

riverdancePlymouth Pavilions are proud to be hosting Riverdance, the Farewell Tour. Taking in 14 cities across the UK from January, the award winning show returns to the city from Tuesday 3 to Sunday 8 February 2009.

This is the last chance for UK audiences to see the show rightly described by the Irish Times as “The Original…The Best”.

The Washington Post exclaimed, “Twelve years after its Dublin premiere, its continued popularity proves that it was, and remains, a phenomenon of historic proportions!”

“Since 1995, the success of RIVERDANCE in the UK has gone beyond our wildest dreams,” said producer Moya Doherty. “The fact that the show continues to draw and excite audiences 13 years after its debut in Dublin is a tribute to every dancer, singer, musician, staff and crew member who have dedicated themselves to the show. We look forward to this farewell tour of the UK as it was always our intention to end on a high note.”

Composed by Bill Whelan, Produced by Moya Doherty and Directed by John McColgan, the full-length show opened in February 1995 in the Point Theatre, Dublin and The Farewell Tour will be the eighth time that Riverdance has performed across the UK where it has been experienced by over 2.7 million people in well over 1000 performances in 18 cities and the show has lost none of its magic. The worldwide TV audience for Riverdance is in excess of 2 billion people.

Riverdance has received rave reviews across the world but perhaps the simplicity of The Guardian’s verdict sums it up: “Dance does not often get so good.” Riverdance is a celebration of Irish dance and culture, presented with sophistication and vibrancy.” The Hollywood Reporter acclaimed, “the sort of spectacle and experience that comes along once in a lifetime.”

This series of dates in 2009 represent the chance for UK Riverdance fans old and new to experience a truly phenomenal piece of theatrical entertainment.

Will Young: ‘Let it Go Tour’

willyoung1It has been 4 long years since Will Young last performed in Plymouth to a sell out crowd and now he’s back in fine form! (Last performed in Plymouth on 29 May 2004)

Will Young hits the road again this Winter with a major UK tour and brings his ‘Let It Go 2008’ show to Plymouth Pavilions on Tuesday 9 December 2008.

Opening at Newcastle’s City Hall on 16 November, he plays a total 17 dates over the following month, culminating in a closing date at London’s Roundhouse on 12 December.

Will’s performance, as well as featuring many favourites from his enviable back-catalogue, will centre around his stunning new album.

Released 29 September, ‘Let It Go’ plays to Will’s strengths whilst also pushing him in exciting new directions, melding soul, disco and that extraordinary voice with good old-fashioned pop to create his most arresting record to date.

The effervescent single ‘Changes’ (which was released 14 September) provides an excellent introduction to his new material and whets the appetite for what will surely become the soundtrack to Winter 2008.

Traverso

travAnother World Class Act from South Devon – Traverso

Local singer Laurance Traverso is the latest sensation confirming that South Devon is a stronghold in producing the best musical talent.  After playing extensively in and around the UK his journey has taken him to California with a top quality album on its way, debut single ‘Crash’ released in November & a major tour in the offing, James Blunt and David Gray look out there is someone here biting your heals.

From his birth Place in Genoa to a life in the UK and the rest of the world, it’s been a series twists and turns that have lead Traverso to where he is now. Touring Europe for the last five years, Laurance Traverso (aka Traverso) has slowly built up a following of snowboarding, surfing, experience loving individuals who are living it to the full, good times and bad.

A snowboardier and traveller, from its origins in Austria last April, out of the blue an album was born.

Unable to stop and watch the world drift by, Laurance headed to LA to see friends, where he bumped into top producer Clif Norrell (REM, Jeff Buckley, Sting and Faith No More) and after a few beers and a couple of tequilas they agreed to make the album together.

Rehearsals started almost immediately in downtown LA, with the sunshine and Californian lifestyle giving its flavour to songs of love and loss.

The studio soon became a meeting place for local and international talent with Spiker (Tenacious D) and Lester Nuby (IdleWild, Verbena) quickly building up

a tight rhythm section like they had played together all their lives. Kones

(Tenacious D) on lead guitar and Simon Lowry on keys laying a wave of light and shade with Traverso’s vocal riding the crest to the peak.

The rehearsal sessions lead directly into the tracking at the Bombshelter studios (LA) and then onto Casa Zuma (Clif’s own studios) in Malibu.

It was an intense experience, with only one day off in the month that it took to create it. The music is eclectic and deals with the hopes, heartbreaks and life experiences of trying to find our place in an ever-changing world.

The band will soon be travelling to select venues across the UK to deliver their brand of crafted soulful rock coinciding with national and local airplay of the first single “Crash”.

Scott McGowan

scottI have had the privilege of knowing Scott for many many years and it is not often that you come across an individual who is so passionate about everything to do with music.  From performing, writing his own original material and in between all of that teaching others the gift of music and playing some of the most popular songs and greatest hits in the world with Les McKeown’s Legendary Bay City Rollers.  The chances of someone reading this that hasn’t had the pleasure of seeing Scott play is pretty remote, but if you haven’t I suggest you do so.  Scotts’ approach to music is nothing more than inspirational but don’t take my word for it go and find out for yourself.

South Devon based guitarist/vocalist Scott McGowan has been a regular performer on the live music scene in the South West for over two decades, playing both as a solo artist and as the frontman for his own band. Since 1995 Scott has established himself as a guitar teacher, working in schools throughout Devon, and as a private tutor in Torbay. For the last two years Scott has been a regular member of Les McKeown’s Legendary Bay City Rollers, playing shows with the band all over Britain, with a personal highlight being two shows in Scott’s hometown of Glasgow.

As well as playing rock and pop gigs, a lifelong interest in country music has seen Scott put together a new project which is an evening of music dedicated solely to this style of music. He covers many artists in a collection of songs which features many different styles of country music both old and new. The set also features two or three original instrumentals showcasing Scott’s chicken-pickin’ lead guitar style, all played on a real American Telecaster!

Scott is available for gigs in the South West and nationwide, with some bookings already taken in North East Scotland for next year.

For information regarding bookings for either the Country set, or the rock/pop set either as a solo artist or with Scott’s band Main Street, then contact Scott directly on 01803 522802.

A new website is in preparation for 2008 which will include samples of the many styles which Scott can play plus information on guitar tuition and how to purchase CDs of Scott’s own material.
