Greenway Twilight Picnic for Children’s Charity

Following the success of the Torbay Save the Children’s choir concert last year, a Proms style evening is planned for this year’s event, on Saturday16th July at 7 p.m.   The music for a Twilight Picnic in the splendid setting of the National Trust’s Greenway Gardens, will be provided by local Torquay based choir The Big Noise Chorus and The Torbay Brass Band, in what promises to be an entertaining evening of music and song.   The evening includes a transport adventure to the event by the Greenway Coach, from Brixham Park & Ride or by Ferry from Dartmouth.

The Big Noise Chorus is a network of community choirs aiming to explode the myth that you need
an amazing voice to sing in a choir.  Established in September 2009, they perform pop, soul, rock and
Mo Town  music with gusto.  Directed by Colin Rea, the Big Noise Chorus has exploded into Devon,
successfully getting people singing together to raise money for charity.
Truly a local band, Torbay Brass Band was formed in 1976 by a group of local people who were employed at
South Devon College who showed an enthusiasm for brass playing.  The band grew very quickly attracting
Player’s from the Torbay area and was able to add to its strength a junior training band that today forms the
very active Torbay Concert Brass.  The current band still retains its local connections through its members,
who like their predecessors, are very proud to carry the name of Torbay wherever they go, locally, nationally
and internationally. A new training band has been restarted which is open to anyone wishing to learn to play
a brass instrument.
Diane Gale of Torbay Save the Children says, “The evening as suggests, will include a range of music for all
tastes, and with a flavour of the last night of the  Proms, so bring along your picnic and seating and enjoy a
summer evening of exciting and foot-tapping entertainment.”  Tickets cost £12.50 for Adults and £9.50 for
Children. For Dartmouth Ferry tickets are available from Greenway Ferry Booking Office, at
the Dartmouth Quay or Tel: 01803 520847.  Tickets for the Greenway Bus can be bought from Torbay Bookshop, Torquay Road, Paignton, Another Chapter Book Shop, The  Quay, Brixham or by telephoning   01803 520847.
By holding this event,  Save the Children hope to raise money to fund its  work in the many emergency areas around  the world, which affect the lives of thousands of children.  Over the last twelve months Save the Children has responded to 30 different emergencies across the globe and its work is always on-going, wherever support is needed.
